The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a maritime security incident off the coast of Oman on 26 May. The incident caused an oil spill into the water while all crew have been reported safe.
According to UKMTO at 9:45 UTC near 60 nautical miles east of Muscat, the captain of the Marshall Islands tanker Olympic Life reported that the explosion occurred on the port side aft, close to the waterline. The impact resulted in a discharge of bunker fuel into the surrounding waters.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and assess the environmental impact of the spill. The vessels transiting the region have been advised to exercise caution.
Olympic Life is a 2019 built crude oil tanker operated by Greek shipping company Olympic Shipping & Management. According to the MarineTraffic data the vessel departed from Malacca Strait on 13 May and is currently located in West Coast India with destination listed as waiting "for order".
