The Inter-American Chamber of National Associations of Maritime Agents (CIANAM) is a regional organization founded on October 12, 1966, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the objective of strengthening cooperation and integration among maritime associations in the American continent. Since its creation, the entity has consolidated itself as one of the main forums for representation and analysis of the Latin American maritime-port sector, promoting technical exchange, logistical development, and the competitiveness of international maritime trade in the face of global challenges.
Currently, CIANAM is made up of national associations of maritime agents from 11 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Through this body, the various maritime actors in the region maintain a permanent channel of cooperation to discuss issues related to maritime transport, port infrastructure, trade facilitation, sustainability, and the modernization of international logistics chains.
In 2026, Peru hosted the regional meeting organized by the Inter-American Chamber of National Associations of Maritime Agents together with the Peruvian Association of Maritime Agents. On May 21, in Lima, the international symposium "International Maritime Trade: Reshaping the Geopolitical Scenario" was held, an event that brought together leaders from the maritime, port, and logistics sectors of Latin America to analyze the new challenges facing global trade and the impact of geopolitics on maritime routes and international supply chains.
In this context, the Ecuadorian Maritime Chamber – CAMAE had a prominent institutional participation, represented by its President, Eng. Andrés Padilla, and its Executive Director, VAdm. Milton Lalama. The Ecuadorian presence strengthened the country's representation within regional maritime integration spaces and allowed for the presentation of the current situation of Ecuadorian ports, as well as challenges related to competitiveness, maritime connectivity, and logistical modernization.
CAMAE's participation took place at the InterContinental Lima Miraflores, where topics related to logistical resilience, port digitalization, and the transformation of supply chains were also addressed. During the event, prominent international leaders and authorities participated, analyzing the impact of global geopolitics on international maritime trade and the region's strategic routes.
One of the relevant points discussed during the symposium was the growth of South American Pacific port infrastructure, especially after the strategic positioning of the Port of Chancay in Peru, currently considered one of the most important logistics projects in Latin America. This port seeks to consolidate itself as a regional hub for commercial connection between South America and Asia, generating new dynamics of maritime competitiveness and opportunities for strengthening regional logistics chains.
