The Port of Lobito received an official visit from the Indonesian Ambassador accredited to Angola, Mirza Nurhidayat, with the main objective of diversifying investments beyond the oil sector, strengthening trade, and promoting the regional development of the Lobito Corridor.
The strategic position of the Corridor in Southern Africa has once again captured the attention of the Asian market. During a working visit aimed at evaluating partnerships in the logistics and port sector, the ambassador met with the Port's administration, led by the Human Resources Administrator and interim Chairman of the Board of Directors, Romão de Andrade, highlighting the region's potential to boost bilateral trade.
During the meeting, the diplomat expressed Indonesia's great interest in expanding cooperation with Angola beyond the oil sector. In his speech, he emphasized the economic importance of Benguela province and, in particular, the municipality of Lobito, describing it as a key strategic hub due to its geographical location, the richness of its maritime resources, and the fundamental role played by the Lobito Corridor.
During the working session and the subsequent panoramic tour of the port's operational areas, the interim administration presented the diplomat with a detailed description of the technical capabilities of the facilities, highlighting the modernization of specialized terminals for general cargo, containers, and minerals.
The meeting paid special attention to the competitive advantages of the Lobito Corridor, a vital infrastructure that positions the port platform as the fastest and most efficient route for the flow of goods and mineral resources to and from the landlocked countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), namely the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
On the occasion, De Andrade reaffirmed the company's commitment to consolidating the Port of Lobito as a catalyst for economic development and a strategic gateway to the South Atlantic. The manager reiterated the institution's full readiness to welcome commercial partnerships and technological exchanges with the Indonesian private sector, with the aim of optimizing processes and creating new maritime routes.
The ambassador's visit, based in Namibia, reaffirms the growing importance of the Lobito logistics hub on the map of attraction for major emerging economies in Southeast Asia, indicating the strengthening of diplomatic and commercial relations between Angola and Indonesia.
