The Vice Foreign Ministers of South Korea and Mexico jointly expressed the need to resume talks to establish a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both nations.
The declaration was made in the context of a meeting held in Seoul, led by the Korean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Park Yoon-Joo, and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, María Teresa Mercado. Both authorities agreed on the importance of deepening bilateral relations and the positive impact of resuming FTA negotiations, as it would diversify the supply chains of both nations.
Regarding the FTA, South Korea and the North American country began discussions in 2006; however, talks stalled in 2008 due to opposition from some Mexican industrial sectors.
Following the meeting, Vice Minister Park stated that topics of mutual interest such as investment, trade, space technology, and cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) were addressed during the event.
