The United States has included Ecuador in a group of 60 countries that are being evaluated within a trade review process that could lead to the application of additional tariff measures. The initiative is part of the control mechanisms promoted by Washington to strengthen compliance with standards in international supply chains and ensure equitable conditions of competition.
Ecuadorian authorities indicated that the country maintains dialogue with the United States to present technical information and support its position during the public hearings scheduled for July 7. This process coincides with the analysis of the Reciprocal Trade Agreement signed between both countries in March 2026 and currently under review by the Constitutional Court. The issue was also addressed during the Business Future of the Americas meeting, which brings together representatives from the business and investment sectors of the continent.
The evolution of this review will be relevant for Ecuadorian foreign trade due to the strategic importance of the US market as an export destination. The definition of eventual trade measures could affect the competitiveness of logistics chains, the flow of goods, and bilateral economic relations, in an increasingly demanding international environment regarding regulatory compliance and global trade sustainability.
