The mining company Cerrejón reported a new attack against its railway infrastructure in La Guajira, in the northernmost part of Colombia.
The company detailed that "the incident occurred at approximately 12:14 a.m. -in the early hours of Thursday, August 13-. No people were injured, nor was the integrity of our workers affected."
The mining company added that "the incident was promptly reported to the authorities, who are in the area carrying out the corresponding security and verification tasks."
"Cerrejón maintains coordination with the authorities and will await the completion of inspection work to establish possible damage to the infrastructure," the company stated.
"Cerrejón calls on the competent authorities to strengthen security and protection actions for the strategic infrastructure of La Guajira and the country. Attacking this infrastructure not only affects a company: it puts at risk the lives, the safety of communities, and the stability of activities that contribute to the development of the region and Colombia," it emphasized.
According to the company, this incident adds to four other attacks recorded this year, totaling five actions that have affected its infrastructure.
