The National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC), through its Bio Bio regional president and national vice president, Germán Faúndez, expressed its concern over the Ministry of Finance's decision to suspend the processing of public transport corridor projects, Ruta 160 and Ruta 150 Concepción–Talcahuano Highway. The union demanded the reversal of the measure.
The leader stated that this measure is "a severe blow to Bio Bio" and postpones key strategic works to improve connectivity, reduce travel times, increase road safety, and strengthen the logistical competitiveness of one of the country's most productive regions.
"Bio Bio cannot continue to be the adjustment variable when the Government faces fiscal constraints. Our region contributes to Chile's development with its ports, industry, forestry, agricultural, and manufacturing activities. The least we expect is for the State to fulfill its committed investments to improve the infrastructure that supports this development," affirmed Germán Faúndez.
The leader pointed out that cargo transport requires a modern and efficient road network to reduce costs, improve productivity, and provide better safety conditions for both transporters and all road users. "Every delayed project means more congestion, more accidents, higher logistical costs, and fewer growth opportunities. These works are not a luxury; they are a necessity for the economic and social development of Bio Bio," he said.
The CNDC called on the Government to reconsider the decision, considering it crucial to send a clear signal of support to the regions, prioritizing investments that generate employment, stimulate the economy, and improve the quality of life for thousands of people.
Faúndez warned that the union does not rule out initiating mobilizations in the Bio Bio Region, along with convening other productive guilds and social organizations, if the Executive maintains the halt of these projects.
"We do not want to reach that scenario, but neither will we remain indifferent while the development of Bio Bio is once again postponed. We hope that the Government rectifies and understands that these works are a priority for the entire region," said the leader.
The Confederation of Truck Owners reiterated that infrastructure is a decisive factor for economic growth, attracting investments, and generating employment, and therefore called on authorities to prioritize regional interests over decisions that deepen centralism and affect the future of Bio Bio.
