The Ecuadorian National Police seized 64 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride in the Pascuales district, north of Guayaquil, as part of the "Shanghai" operation. The drug was hidden in a false bottom of an export banana container whose final destination was China.
"The drug was covered with metal sheets and grease to evade X-ray controls and detection by anti-drug dogs. During the operation, a citizen was apprehended and the truck transporting the container was retained," reported John Reimberg, Ecuador's Minister of the Interior.
"The seized drug is equivalent to 64,000 doses and has an estimated value of USD 1.6 million in the US market," he added.
According to information released about the case, the inspected container was ready to be shipped. It is worth remembering that the port terminals of Guayaquil have become the main departure platform for cocaine produced in Colombia and Peru from Ecuador.
