The Border Crossings Unit of the Ministry of Interior reported that coordination is active to respond to the contingency of the main international corridors to Argentina, given the closure of the Los Libertadores pass due to bad weather. However, authorities called on international transporters to expedite flows at Pino Hachado.
According to the unit, the Cristo Redentor Integrated System remains closed due to snow accumulation in Los Libertadores, an issue Public Works is addressing with support from military personnel from the Army's Mountain School.
However, a potential reopening of Cristo Redentor – Los Libertadores will only occur when both Chile and Argentina have the necessary conditions to simultaneously allow guaranteed, safe crossings. Additionally, the Ministry of Interior urged transport companies to inform themselves through official channels about the conditions of international passes.
The National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC) indicated that the closure of the main border pass has forced transporters to seek alternatives to cross into the neighboring country, especially Pino Hachado, in the Araucanía Region. In that location, the Malleco Presidential Delegation activated a contingency plan, which includes providing sanitary facilities for drivers. Movements are regulated by Carabineros, as reported.
However, authorities called on international transporters to expedite flows at Pino Hachado, where over a hundred trucks are in the parking areas. It was reported that 60 of them are still pending tax payments and another 40 require modifying pass codes to free up flows.
The Ministry of Transport indicated that trucks must enter with customs duties or tax payments already resolved. Regarding the information to be provided, it was requested to verify that the pass location code is configured as Araucanía, not Los Libertadores, as this requires changes and slows down processes.
