The Port Authority of Sines and Algarve (APS, Portugal) has initiated the tender process for the requalification of port services, road access, paving, and signage on the avenue adjacent to the Port of Sines. The project has a planned base investment of four million euros.
Details of this milestone were provided on the APS website, where it was reported that "with an estimated execution period of 120 days, the project is part of APS's strategy for the continuous modernization of port infrastructure and the improvement of accessibility, contributing to safer and more efficient operations in the Port of Sines. The intervention addresses the current deterioration of pavements and the need to update signage and traffic organization, thereby creating safer and more suitable conditions for the intensive use of the waterway by different types of users."
"The planned works include the regularization and leveling of the road layout, complete repaving, renewal of horizontal and vertical signage, improvement of storm drainage, and the installation of public lighting. The intervention also includes the construction of a new roundabout that will provide access to the Service Port and the reorganization of traffic flow at the Pedreira roundabout, which will contribute to smoother circulation and the reduction of conflicts between users," the publication added.
Regarding port services, it was indicated that "the remodeling will allow for the reorganization of internal circulation and the reconfiguration of parking areas, with 65 spaces for light vehicles and 11 for heavy vehicles, including reserved spaces for people with reduced mobility and motorcycle parking, thus reinforcing the capacity of this infrastructure to support port operations."
Finally, it was detailed that "in environmental terms, the project incorporates resource efficiency solutions through the recycling of some of the materials resulting from the milling of existing pavements, which will be incorporated into the new bituminous mixtures, thus contributing to the reduction of raw material consumption and the overall sustainability of the project," the statement concluded.
