Collision between ferry and cargo vessel at Souda Port in Greece

The Ro-Ro/Passenger ship collided with a cargo vessel in the port of Souda, Greece, on 21 July. The incident caused damage to both inbound vessels, but no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred when passenger ship Elyros, operating a scheduled service from Piraeus to Souda with 100 passengers, 32 cars and 95 trucks on board, struck the port-side bow of the inbound ro-ro cargo vessel Iosif K.

Both the Greece-flagged vessels sustained minor damage. An inspection was conducted by the classification society surveyors to assess their seaworthiness before resuming their sailing. Both vessels remained moored at Souda.

The Port Authority has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
