Port of Tourlos Completes Restoration of Piers in Mykonos

The Municipal Port Fund of Mykonos continues to work intensively on the restoration and modernization projects of the local ports. The restoration of the damaged piers in the Port of Tourlos was recently completed, allowing ships and vessels to dock.

Mykonos Mayor, Christos Veronis, referred to this new project personally, emphasizing that "the design of the New Port of Tourlos began as soon as I took office as mayor in 1991, following its management in the then Ministry of Environment, Public Works and Public Affairs. Its construction began in 1994 and it became operational in 2000. Of course, the works continued and are still ongoing."

"We have created one of the most beautiful projects in Europe, classified as a Port of International Interest-Category K1. Now that we have returned to municipal administration, I, as mayor, and Thanasis Megas, as president of the Municipal Port Fund, instead of dealing with new and necessary modernization and improvement projects, have spent two and a half years dedicating time to restoring it to a decent state," added Mayor Veronis.

In relation to this same project, the President of the Mykonos Port Fund, Ath. Kousathanas-Megas, stated that "the completion of the port infrastructure modernization projects and the capacity to receive larger vessels starting in 2028 mark the beginning of a new era. However, this new reality requires us to plan for the future with responsibility, foresight, and respect for the environment and society."

"Our goal is to generate greater value for Mykonos through a sustainable development model that ensures the balance between economic progress, the protection of natural wealth, and the preservation of our island's unique identity," concluded Kousathanas-Megas.
