The Port of Lisbon-Setúbal (Portugal) recorded a year-on-year growth of 7.24% in cargo movement during the first four months of 2026. In total, the Portuguese maritime station transferred 5.9 million tons of goods.
Details about these figures were provided on the Portuguese facility's website, stating that "this positive performance reflects the recovery and growth dynamics of port activity in the region, supported by the favorable evolution of the main cargo segments and the operational complementarity between the ports of Lisbon and Setúbal."
"At the Port of Lisbon, the cumulative total for the first four months of the year registered a growth of almost 8%, exceeding 3.8 million tons handled, driven mainly by the strong recovery observed in April, which showed an increase of approximately 27% compared to the same month of 2025. Solid and liquid bulk cargo stood out as the segments with the highest growth, reinforcing the port's contribution to logistics and industrial chains. Noteworthy are the results obtained by the Banática Liquid Terminal (Repsol), with a growth of 26%, and the Palença Food Bulk Terminal (Sovena), with an increase of 104.4%," the publication indicated.
Furthermore, it was reported that "in the containerized cargo segment, a total of 151,563 TEUs were handled in the first four months of the year, representing an increase of 1.8% compared to the same period in 2025."
"The Port of Setúbal recorded an overall growth of approximately 5.8%, with around 2.1 million tons mobilized, driven mainly by the positive evolution of liquid bulk cargo (+25%), solid bulk cargo (+10%), and containerized cargo (+7.8%). Despite the decrease recorded in general cargo, the overall performance confirms the positive trend in port activity," it added.
Regarding the terminals, it was added that "the results show very positive trends, with significant growth in the infrastructure of Tanquisado (+178%), Termitrena (+84.7%), and Praias do Sado (+57.7%)."
In this regard, the president of the Port Authority of Lisbon-Setúbal, Vítor Calderinha, assured that "the results obtained in this first quarter confirm the growth and recovery trajectory of port activity in the Lisbon and Setúbal region, highlighting the responsiveness, adaptability, and complementarity of both ports," concluded the executive.
