Asmar Talcahuano officially commenced the construction of the multipurpose vessel for the Escotillón IV project, the LPD-94 "Rapa Nui". The initiative belongs to the National Continuous Naval Construction Plan led by the Chilean Navy.At the event, the keel, which is the central piece of the ship's hull, was laid in a ceremony headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Fernando Cabrera.In this regard, the director of the Navy Shipyards and Arsenals, Rear Admiral José Miguel Hernández stated that "if the launching of the "Magallanes" represented the step of a work towards meeting the sea, the laying of the keel of the "Rapa Nui" reminds us that this capacity does not end in a single ship; it is projected, consolidated, and restarts with greater experience and technical maturity, and renewed confidence in our teams."Regarding the construction process, it was detailed that "the positioning of block 51 of the LPD – 94 "Rapa Nui" on the construction slipway, which will be the double bottom of the engine room, is the point at which the project ceases to be the sum of plans, calculations, materials, and components, and begins to be a vessel that will grow from its base, block by block, until it is ready in May 2029."During this milestone, a tribute to the Rapa Nui culture was held, where "an ancestral blessing was performed to bestow positive energy upon the future naval unit, which consisted of sharing a white chicken curanto with those who will participate in the construction process of this new multipurpose vessel."Regarding the ceremony, the cultural ambassador of Rapa Nui, Lynn Rapu, indicated that "we are very spiritual. We believe in God, in spirits, we believe in mother earth and the sea, and that is why we wanted to pay this tribute so that there is very good energy in the work developed by ASMAR and all the people involved in the project."
