Cacif Backs Approval of Guatemala's General Port Law

The Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial, and Financial Associations (Cacif) of Guatemala positively assessed the approval of the General Law of the National Port System by the country's Congress of the Republic. The regulation was considered a significant step forward in modernizing the legal framework governing the development of Guatemalan ports.

The organization emphasized that "having modern and updated legislation contributes to providing greater legal certainty, strengthening institutions, and laying the groundwork for a more efficient, competitive port system aligned with the needs of national and international trade."

"The modernization of the port system is a key element to improve Guatemala's competitiveness, facilitate trade, promote investment, and strengthen the country's integration into regional and global supply chains," Cacif highlighted.

The coordinating committee pointed out that "a more efficient port system helps reduce logistics costs, streamline the movement of goods, and make the supply chain more efficient. As these benefits consolidate, they can translate into greater product availability and more favorable conditions for all Guatemalans."

"As the private sector, we reiterate our commitment to continue promoting initiatives that strengthen strategic infrastructure, improve the business climate, and foster conditions that favor economic growth, the generation of formal employment, and the sustainable development of Guatemala," Cacif stated.
