Cosco Shipping Development has received its fifth multipurpose bulk carrier built by the Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) shipyard. The vessel was named 'Guo Yi Hai' and has a capacity of 80,000 DWT.
According to I marine news, "this series of vessels, independently developed and designed in China, represents the world's first multipurpose vessel specifically designed for grain transport. With an overall length of 229.95 meters and a beam of 32.26 meters, the vessels feature a spacious cargo hold and are capable of transporting various types of grains—such as soybeans, corn, and wheat—as well as dry bulk cargo, making them ideal for operating on international maritime routes."
"The vessels feature an optimized hull structure and propulsion system, utilizing eco-friendly and low-carbon construction processes, achieving significant reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions, in line with international standards for sustainable maritime transport and China's strategic dual carbon goals," the publication added.
Finally, it was stated that "previously, four vessels of the same type, delivered by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian), operated continuously on the China-Africa route, overcoming the limitations of single-type cargo transport and establishing a two-way intermodal transport model that included 'containers on the outbound journey and dry bulk on the return journey'."
