Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), announced the arrival of the Fakhr 1, a new integrated oil supply and services vessel, to the Timsah Shipbuilding Company, an affiliate of the SCA.
The vessel completed its delivery voyage from the Ningde Tai Jinzhou Yuajin shipyard in China, where it was built, sailing non-stop for 33 days before transiting the maritime passage. The Fakhr 1 measures 64.8 meters in length, 16 meters in beam, has a draft of 5 meters, and is equipped to accommodate a crew of 60 people.
Built according to the latest international standards for fuel-efficient maritime operations, the vessel is fully equipped to support diving activities and features a DP2 dynamic positioning system, allowing it to maintain its position anywhere without the need to drop anchor.
Rabiee highlighted that the Fakhr 1, the first of its kind in Egypt, was specifically built to conduct geophysical surveys and marine geotechnical investigations in support of oil exploration. The SCA official added that the addition of this vessel boosts the country's oil and gas exploration efforts by strengthening the national fleet with a state-of-the-art maritime unit, generating foreign currency savings and reducing dependence on foreign-owned maritime units.
The head of the entity announced that the Fakhr 1 will be deployed in Abu Rudeis, in the Red Sea, under a contract with Petrobel, a subsidiary of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and actual work is expected to commence in July.
