MTC presents Circular Economy Roadmap for Transport for public consultation

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the General Directorate of Environmental Affairs (DGAAM), held the workshop "Presentation and review of the proposed Circular Economy Roadmap for the Transport Sector to be published for public consultation," as part of the preliminary actions before the start of the public consultation process for this important sectoral management instrument.

The activity was recently held in both in-person and virtual modalities, with the participation of representatives from public entities at all three levels of government, civil society organizations, private companies, trade associations, consultants, and other stakeholders linked to the transport sector and the promotion of sustainability and business competitiveness.

During the event, the proposed Circular Economy Roadmap for the Transport Sector (HREC Transportes) was presented, which will be made available to the public to receive comments and contributions during the public consultation process. The main components of the instrument were also presented, including the sectoral vision, strategic objectives, strategic action plan, and governance mechanism.

Through a participatory methodology, both in-person and virtual attendees reviewed the contents of the proposal and exchanged opinions and recommendations that will help strengthen the version to be submitted for public consultation, promoting a transparent, participatory, and technically sound process.

Representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the European Union highlighted the importance of consolidating a Roadmap that guides the transport sector's transition towards a circular economy model, promoting more efficient use of resources, innovation, and sustainability.

The development of the HREC Transportes is led by the MTC, with the technical support of the European Union's "Sustainable Businesses" Circular Economy Program, and constitutes a pioneering initiative, as the Transport sector is one of the first to voluntarily promote a circular economy roadmap, in accordance with national guidelines on the matter.

With this workshop, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to the participatory construction of public policies aimed at strengthening the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector, promoting the participation of the different stakeholders involved before the start of the public consultation process.
