Chaco: Over 30 Tons of Fresh Fruit Transported Without Documentation Seized

In Chaco, Argentina, SENASA and the local police intercepted a truck carrying over 30 tons of fresh fruit with fraudulent documentation. The shipment, originating from Misiones and destined for Salta, was deemed a high sanitary risk due to improper labeling and lack of phytosanitary certificates, leading to its destruction.

In a random control in the Chaco department of Almirante Brown, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA), together with the Chaco Police, detected a truck transporting 31,354 kgs. of fresh fruit circulating with apocryphal documentation from the Cainguás department, province of Misiones, destined for Cerrillos, Salta.

Personnel from the Chaco-Formosa Regional Center of the agency inspected the cargo, which consisted of 13,284 kgs. of mango, 2,070 kgs. of grapes; 15,000 kgs. of watermelon and 1,000 kgs of melon, and verified that it had labels from another country and was not accompanied by the corresponding documentation.

It should be noted that to bring plants or their parts into the country, it is mandatory to comply with import phytosanitary requirements, and documentary and physical verification at the point of entry into the country.

Considering the cargo a high sanitary risk, the merchandise was denatured in accordance with the provisions of Resolution ex MAGYP N°38/12.
