In Escobar, Buenos Aires province, veterinary students from the Universidad del Salvador (USAL) visited the Frimsa SA full-cycle slaughterhouse along with staff from the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) as part of an inter-institutional training day.
The fifth-year students toured all the facilities, including livestock reception, corrals, slaughter, deboning, primary and secondary packaging, cold rooms, and cold storage. In each sector, the operation and activities carried out there were described, both by those responsible for quality control and the Veterinary Inspection Service (SIV). On the slaughter line, the function of each Veterinary Inspection post was explained.
The students were accompanied by the establishment's quality manager, the supervisor, and the head of the Veterinary Inspection Service. The Agri-Food Safety and Quality Coordinator of the Metropolitan Regional Center highlighted the great importance of this learning environment and the possibility of holding such inter-institutional events with veterinary students, so they can learn about the activities carried out in these establishments for products, by-products, and derivatives of animal origin, and the inspection tasks performed by SENASA.
At the end, there was a discussion session for students to ask questions and express concerns, concluding with thanks to the establishment's authorities and the staff assigned to the S.I.V. and SENASA supervision.
The head of the Veterinary Inspection Service stated that it is a pleasure to welcome groups of students year after year and considered these visits an important tool for students to get to know a full-cycle slaughterhouse and clarify doubts about the inspection work carried out by the Agency's personnel and the importance of their work in public health.
