The Legal Superintendent of the Santos Port Authority (APS), Marcelo Zovico, initiated negotiations with the Port of Trieste, Italy, to identify maritime trade opportunities and increase cargo flow between the two markets.
The representative of the Port of Santos was in Trieste to participate in the Adria Shipping Summit, held in that city on October 1st and 2nd. The superintendent's initiative follows the agreement signed between Santos and the Port of Genoa in 2025, aimed at identifying commercial development opportunities.
For Brazil's foreign trade, the Port of Trieste is of great interest due to its important railway connections with all of Europe, which can open up possibilities for accessing new markets. "Trieste's location is interesting; it functions as a strategic hub, especially for the European market," said Zovico.
Zovico emphasized that the discussions are still in their initial phase, with no agreement or direct maritime service announced. "We will still have to build direct commercial relations between Santos and Trieste. But the first step has been taken. The visit seeks to pave the way for this approximation," highlighted Zovico, recalling that there are common challenges for both ports, such as the expansion of operations and environmental issues.
