The Port of Ilhéus concluded a simultaneous cargo handling operation involving two vessels and a total of 35,000 tons of products. The operation included 20,000 tons of nickel and 15,200 tons of crude magnesite.
The handling of crude magnesite represents a new operation at the terminal. Produced by RHI Magnesita, the cargo originates from Brumado, in southwestern Bahia, and is destined for the Port of Ghent, Belgium. The transport is carried out aboard the MV Nord Copenhagen, which flies the Danish flag.
The simultaneous operation also includes the vessel MV Eco Nemesis, flying the Danish flag, responsible for transporting 20,000 tons of nickel. The cargo originates from Itajibá, Bahia, and is destined for Finland.
The management of different types of cargo is part of the diversification process of the Port of Ilhéus' operations and expands the possibilities of using the terminal for export flows. This operation also contributes to connecting the productive areas of Bahia with international markets.
According to information provided by the operators involved, the handling of crude magnesite through the Port of Ilhéus has expansion potential in the coming years. It is anticipated that the terminal will initially be able to handle approximately 100,000 tons of the product per year, with the possibility of reaching 150,000 tons starting in 2028.
The operation is carried out using the currently available infrastructure at the Port of Ilhéus, which has the necessary structure for handling and storing bulk cargo.
