The Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy (Inocar) launched a scientific research campaign to evaluate climatic conditions off the Ecuadorian coast. This initiative seeks to collect data at 26 oceanographic stations to closely monitor changes in sea temperature and salinity. The institution's technicians are focusing their efforts on identifying thermal anomalies in the water before they affect the productive activities of the coastal region.
The team of researchers, composed of experts in physical, chemical, biological, and operational oceanography, is responsible for reviewing the behavior of the Equatorial Front and ocean currents. During the days at sea, military personnel also perform maintenance and inspection tasks on the technological equipment installed in the north of the continental coastline. These technical tasks ensure that buoys and sensors continue to transmit accurate and uninterrupted information to monitoring centers.
The data obtained during the expeditions will serve as a technical basis for government authorities to make timely decisions in response to the current yellow alert in the country. Constant monitoring allows for the adjustment of prevention plans and the mitigation of flood risks in ports and vulnerable areas of the national territory. In this way, marine science becomes a key strategic tool to protect logistical infrastructure and foreign trade.
