Ecuadorian customs control units successfully seized 10,440,000 cigarettes that were attempting to enter the country through the Port of Guayaquil.
The cargo arrived from Panama aboard a 40-foot container. In detail, the shipment consisted of 1,044 cartons and had been declared as air conditioners, a facade that was uncovered, among other factors, by its weight and the application of artificial intelligence.
With the support of the Ecuadorian National Navy, the container was inspected, and certain markings on the cartons were analyzed, with the presumption of being linked to criminal groups dedicated to smuggling.
This new blow to criminal structures adds to the 2,185,240 cigarette units apprehended from January to April 2026 in various operations carried out by our personnel.
In the Ecuadorian market, each cigarette is illegally sold starting from 0.25 cents. These actions are aimed at protecting the local economy and the constant fight against smuggling in every port, airport, highway, and border line.
