Two years after the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between Ecuador and China, signed on May 10, 2023, and effective since May 1, 2024, various productive sectors highlight the strengthening of bilateral relations and the increase in opportunities for economic exchange. The agreement has allowed for expanded access of Ecuadorian products to the Asian market, consolidating an agenda focused on foreign trade, investment, and international logistical connectivity.
During this period, the treaty has boosted the dynamism of strategic sectors linked to exports, manufacturing, and supply chains. On the import side, China has also seen growth of approximately 25% between January and March 2026, mainly in machinery, technology, and industrial inputs. Daniel Legarda, vice president of the Ecuadorian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, noted that this behavior reflects a sustained recovery in bilateral exchange and greater commercial integration between both countries.
The progress of the trade agreement represents a relevant element for the logistical and maritime projection of the region, considering the increase in cargo flows, port demand, and international transport connections. In this context, the strengthening of cooperation between Ecuador and China could generate new opportunities for port modernization, the development of logistical infrastructure, and the consolidation of more efficient and diversified global supply chains.
