The destination of Seville and its port have welcomed a delegation of international superyacht and megayacht captains for the 'Sevilla Captains' FAM Trip, the first meeting of its kind held in the city, aiming to strengthen its position as a destination for large luxury yachts.
The initiative, organized by the Port Authority of Seville and Ocean Platform Marinas (OPM) Sevilla, one of the leading managers of marinas for large yachts in Spain and whose majority shareholder is Ocean Capital Partners, allowed participants to experience, over three days, both the facilities and services of the Muelle de las Delicias marina and one of the destination's main differentiating elements: the possibility of accessing via the Guadalquivir River and mooring in the heart of a major cultural capital. The meeting also received support from the Seville City Council - NODO and Sevilla Feeling Land (Turismo de Sevilla), Acquera Yachting, Bodegas Fos, Casal, Abades, and Guadaluxe.
The President of the Port Authority of Seville, Rafael Carmona, welcomed the delegation at the Port of Seville's cruise and megayacht terminal, alongside a commercial representation from the Port Authority and OPM Sevilla. There, the president highlighted the diversity of Seville and its province's tourist attractions, from its cultural heritage and its gastronomic and leisure offerings, to experiences linked to the region's economic activity.
"A diversified offering where cultural heritage, for example, through the Real Alcázar or Seville Cathedral, converges with other nearby destinations like Itálica; or experiential tourism supported by our economic activity with visits to wineries, haciendas... among other attractions of the territory," said Rafael Carmona. He added that this "wealth expands the possibilities of the destination and offers new opportunities to discover Seville," and that all of this is complemented by "the unique experience of sailing the Guadalquivir estuary to reach the heart of the city."
For her part, the Delegate of Tourism and Culture of the Seville City Council, Angie Moreno, emphasized that "the arrival of international superyacht captains at the Port of Seville is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase our city's potential as a premium tourism destination to the world. Seville boasts a first-class cultural, heritage, gastronomic, and experiential offering, capable of meeting the expectations of visitors seeking exclusivity, quality, and authenticity."
Angie Moreno also stressed that "initiatives like this contribute to positioning the city of Seville in new high-value-added tourism segments, strengthening the city's international projection and generating opportunities for the entire tourism and business sector. The navigable connection via the Guadalquivir and the collaboration between institutions and specialized operators allow us to continue expanding our offering and consolidate Seville as a unique destination, also for luxury nautical tourism."
The participating captains command vessels between 50 and 100 meters in length, totaling 473 meters. Their participation responds to a very specific objective: to introduce Seville directly to those who play a decisive role in choosing superyacht destinations and stopovers, with the aim of incorporating the city into their owners' future itineraries.
The uniqueness of the Port of Seville is one of the main arguments of the proposal. It is the only city in Spain with an inland maritime port, connected to the Atlantic via the Guadalquivir River, allowing vessels to sail directly to a first-class urban and cultural environment. For the superyacht sector, this combination of maritime accessibility and location in the heart of the city makes Seville a distinctive destination compared to other ports and marinas.
Beatrice Rasmini, General Manager of OPM Sevilla, stated: "Captains are the ones who decide the course of a superyacht. We want them to discover firsthand what makes Seville unique: arriving by sailing the Guadalquivir to the heart of one of Europe's most beautiful cities, with a marina prepared to serve them at the highest level."
During their stay, the captains visited the facilities managed by OPM Sevilla in the port of Seville and toured the Guadalquivir dock, in addition to participating in various experiences aimed at familiarizing them with the city's cultural, gastronomic, and tourist offerings. The program included, among other activities, a cultural tour of Seville, a gastronomic experience, a wine tasting, and a flamenco show.
Tourism associated with large yachts also has an impact that transcends port activity itself, generating expenditure in areas such as mooring, provisioning, maintenance, dining, shopping, and culture. Its lower dependence on the high season also represents an opportunity to advance in the deseasonalization of tourist activity and strengthen Seville's position among premium destinations linked to international nautical tourism.
The meeting also included representatives from the Port Authority of Seville, Turismo de Sevilla, Acquera Yachting, OPM Sevilla, and Ocean Capital Partners, reinforcing collaboration between the marina, port, city, and specialized operators to promote the arrival of large yachts in Seville.
