The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) is holding for the second consecutive year the children's drawing contest "From Paper to Sky," an initiative that invites children and young people from the Balearic Islands to transform their imagination into the Christmas lighting that will adorn the Port of Palma during the upcoming holidays.
The competition seeks original, surprising, and personality-filled proposals that capture the magic of Christmas, inspired by the sea, ships, or the port world. The winning design will serve as a model to manufacture several sustainable Christmas lights that will decorate a prominent area of the port facility.
Selection Process and Citizen Voting
Among all the works received, the APB will select five finalist proposals that will be published on the website https://www.portsdebalears.com/es/nadal-al-port on October 26. From that moment until November 1, citizens can vote online to choose their favorite design.
The drawing that receives the most votes will be declared the winner on November 2. Its author will not only see their work transformed into a light installation but will also be a protagonist in the official lighting ceremony of the Port of Palma, which will take place on November 27.
Participation Requirements and Format
The call is aimed at children and young people between 5 and 15 years old residing in the Balearic Islands. To participate, an original drawing made by hand must be submitted. Any traditional technique is allowed (pencils, markers, watercolors, tempera), with simple strokes, recognizable shapes, and clear outlines being recommended. Digital works or those created using artificial intelligence are excluded.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with the APB's environmental policies, the luminaires that reproduce the winning drawing will be manufactured under strict sustainability criteria. Recyclable and plastic-free materials, low-energy LED lighting, and solutions to mitigate light pollution will be used, ensuring respect for the marine environment and the night sky.
