The Port Authority of Castellón deeply regrets the passing of Juan José Monzonís Martínez, who served as president of the institution between 2001 and 2015, a decisive period in which the port of Castellón experienced a qualitative and quantitative leap that positioned it among the main logistical and industrial enclaves of the Mediterranean.
A Civil Engineer by profession, Monzonís dedicated more than 45 years to public service. During his 16 years at the helm of PortCastelló, he led an ambitious strategy of infrastructure expansion and operational modernization. Among his main achievements, the conception and development of the South Dock stands out, the largest public work undertaken in the more than 100 years of the maritime enclosure's history, a project that allowed the port's operational capacity to be multiplied and new strategic traffics such as liquid bulk and the ceramic and energy industry of the province to be accommodated.
His mandate was characterized by fluid dialogue with the port community, local industrial sectors, and public administrations.
From the Port Authority of Castellón, President Rubén Ibáñez, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire staff of professionals that make up PortCastelló, has expressed his most sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones in these difficult moments, paying tribute to the technical, professional, and human legacy of Juan José Monzonís.
The funeral services will take place tomorrow, Friday, September 11, at 11:00 AM in the Nuestra Señora del Carmen parish in Castellón.
