Carnival Rewards, which replaced Carnival Cruise Line's Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) program, hinges on spending rather than nights sailed.
"Cruise loyalty has traditionally been built around how often guests sail, and Carnival Rewards was designed to go beyond that," Carnival President Christine Duffy said. "The new program recognizes the many ways our guests engage with Carnival, and with both rewards and status, we're giving guests more flexibility and more value to enjoy the experiences that matter most to them."
Carnival Rewards Points are earned and can be redeemed for cruises and onboard experiences, while Status Qualifying Stars unlock status and additional benefits. The Milestone Recognition Program celebrates key sailing achievements based on days sailed. Carnival Rewards Mastercard cardholders also have the opportunity to accelerate their status and earn more points through everyday spending beyond their Carnival vacation.
Cruisers earn three points for every $1 spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities, and one point for every one casino point remaining at the end of a sailing.
Points can be redeemed for future Carnival cruises and onboard experiences, including shore excursions, specialty dining and spa treatments.
Points are earned at the end of the cruise (posting approximately 14 days after sailing end date) and may be redeemed as soon as they become available.
Status within Carnival Rewards is determined through Status Qualifying Stars, based on spending during a cruise. Three stars are earne for every $1 spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities. One star is accorded for every casino point earned (even if already redeemed onboard for Funplay).
The four status levels are Red (upon enrollment), Gold (10,000 Stars), Platinum (50,000 Stars) and Diamond (100,000 Stars).
Status is earned during a two-year status qualifying window and lasts during the remainder of that period and the following two-year status enjoyment window. The inaugural qualifying period will run from Sept. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028, giving an extended opportunity to earn Status Qualifying Stars for the first qualifying window.
This acknowledges Carnival Rewards members' lifetime relationship with Carnival based on days sailed with recognition and perks. Starting with 50 days sailed, that awards 500 Carnival Rewards Points and a special sign & sail card. For every 100 days sailed, 10,000 points are earned plus onboard recognition, a special sign & sail card, commemorative coin and milestone onboard credit.
At 500 days sailed, and every 100 days after, in addition to all the benefits of the 100 days sailed is a commemorative keepsake and a commemorative gift.
The new Carnival Rewards Mastercard lets cardmembers earn rewards through everyday spending and redeem them to enhance their Carnival experience. The card gives 50,000 bonus points for new cardmembers after they spend $1,000 in the first 90 days. Holders get up to six times points from the card plus up to three times points throug Carnival Rewards on eligible Carnival purchases, including cruise fares, shore excursions, onboard activities, spa treatments and specialty dining. Two times points are earned for eligible restaurant and grocery store purchases.
Holders earn up to four Status Qualifying Stars on Carnival purchases when combined with the Stars earned through Carnival Rewards and one status Qualifying Star on all other purchases.
