Celebrity Cruises celebrated a milestone with the float-out of the Celebrity Compass, the line's first river ship, at the Zwijnenburg shipyard in Rotterdam.
"Celebrity Compass has completed her first float-out, bringing us one step closer to her debut on the river. 2027, we can't wait," the company wrote in a social media update.
Celebrity Compass will make its debut in 2027, alongside Celebrity Seeker, followed by Celebrity Wanderer, Celebrity Roamer and Celebrity Boundless joining the fleet in 2028.
The Compass is the first of 10 river cruise ships announced in 2025, as part of the line's entry into the river cruise market. The ships, set to replicate the brand's ocean-going Edge series, will each accommodate up to 180 passengers, making them among the largest vessels sailing Europe's rivers.
In January this year, the cruise line announced a commitment to an additional 10 new ships, expanding its European river cruise fleet to 20 vessels by 2031.
Celebrity's river ships will sail itineraries on the Rhine and Danube rivers, with destinations including Alsace, Budapest, Prague and Vienna.
Following the announcement, future Celebrity Compass guests shared their excitement on social media.
"I'm booked on the Compass August 2027! Was lucky to be one the folks that was able to book it in the 6 minutes before it sold out," one traveler noted.
Others are eager to see the final product on the water, with one fan saying: "Seriously though, I'm extremely excited about this as this means we're getting closer to this whole thing being a reality."
Some even hoped for a familiar face to take the helm of the new ship, commenting that it would be: "A great ship for Captain Kate to return to!"
