In a first-of-its-kind event at sea, Disney Cruise Line is dropping clues about Disney Believe bars, lounges and more this week during a five-day voyage on Disney Wish.
We already know Tinkerbell bow art, "Toy Story" stern characters and an atrium statue of Moana will adorn Disney Believe, the latest ship in the line's Wish Class of vessels, which is set to debut at the end of 2027. But, via a magical and fun media scavenger hunt, the line is sending journalists, YouTubers and influencers on a mission to uncover even more details.
Cruise Critic is onboard to follow the clues and report back. Although we can only offer speculation until the "big reveal" – which will stream live on Disney Parks' YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok channels on the evening of October 7 – gives us concrete details, we'll tell you all we can until then.
Check back daily for updates.
Editor's Note: If you're just joining us, please scroll down for a recap of Day 1.
Yes, bingo is a staple on cruise ships, but we certainly saw a different take on the game today during the second part of Disney Cruise Line's three-day Disney Believe reveal on Disney Wish.
Last night, we received a clue in our cabin, directing us where to report this morning:
"Good evening, fellow Sea-Ker! Your journey has only just begun. There are so many stories to discover – tales to make you believe! You may keep wondering and wondering and wondering and wondering … when will the next clue begin? Well, the wait is over …. Tomorrow morning, find a place called Fairytale Hall. You may arrive by slide or stairs. A Story Keeper will share the exact time to meet!"
Because Disney Wish's Oceaneer Club kids area is accessible by either stairs or a twisty slide, that's where we met at our appointed time. Rapunzel was waiting and asked us for help locating Pascal. We found him sitting atop a shelf, next to a pile of clues, directing us to pick up a tiny metal bucket on our way out before taking the forward stairs to the landing between Decks 7 and 8.
There, we found hidden letters in a set of three "Frozen"-themed paintings on the wall. After deciphering the code to spell out "ice," we received our next clue:
"Ice you say? A frosty errand awaits! A frozen parcel from Arendelle's northern lakes has just been delivered. Find the story keeper who bears the flag of Arendelle to collect your ice and your next clue. You'll find them at the place where you are eye level with the grandest chandelier of all."
With that, we headed to Deck 5 in the Grand Hall to grab a light-up ice block and the next clue, which sent us on a hunt for the recipient of our ice bucket. In order to find them, we had to "Travel back to the year when two brothers started it all. The eldest holds the key. Step inside and seek the drum hidden in plain sight. The missing letters are etched in between."
We made our way to the "Roy" side of the 1923 dining room, so named for the year Walt and older brother Roy Disney founded their namesake company. We used a decoder on the back of our clue card to determine that we were to visit Oaken at Disney Wish's Arendelle restaurant in order to trade our chilly bucket of goods for our final tasks of the day.
What awaited was a bingo card with 16 squares, each with a ship activity on it. We had to complete any four in a row, across or down, within a given time frame. On the back was a schedule of times those activities were offered.
We chose a "surprise encounter" in the ship's studio, which ended up being a private character meet 'n' greet with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from "Zootopia." (Although the cruise line has teased the film, it has not yet officially confirmed that the theme will be a part of Disney Believe.)
We also found a special cabin door dedicated to Boo from "Monsters Inc.," took a "How to Draw Olaf" class and went to Disney Cruise Line Trivia. At each of our four chosen stops, we added stickers to our bingo card to form a row, thereby completing our day of hunting.
Again, we won't have any confirmed answers about what will be on Disney Believe until the live-stream reveal on October 7, but we do have thoughts. Here's our take:
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure will have a "Tangled" theme instead: Each ship in the Wish Class has a restaurant offering dinner and a live-action show based on one of Disney's animated movies. Disney Wish has Norwegian-forward Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure; Disney Treasure has Plaza de Coco, which serves Mexican-influenced fare; and Disney Destiny's Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King draws from the cuisine of several African nations. Given that we started our day with Rapunzel and ended up meeting Oaken in Arendelle, our guess is that the restaurant in that space on Disney Believe will be based on "Tangled."
"Zootopia" will play a role, possibly in the kids club: We started our day in the Oceaneer Club and ended in The Hideaway area for young adults, so we're wondering if there's some significance there. Given the fact that there were several surprise meet 'n' greets today with characters from "Zootopia," we think there might be a connection. Perhaps they'll feature in one of the designated play areas for the line's youngest cruisers on Disney Believe.
Certain patterns keep repeating: Now that it's the end of our second day, we've accumulated a decent number of clue cards. Looking at them side by side, we're seeing references to the same four franchises repeatedly: "Moana," "Toy Story," "Frozen" and "Tangled." On embarkation day, prior to boarding our bus from our Disney resort to Port Canaveral, the cruise line set up a photo area for passengers. Next to it was a table of signs for people to hold while posing for pictures. On them were symbols representing all four of the same franchises. We fully expect they will all play a larger role onboard Disney Believe.
We've also seen multiple mentions of "Peter Pan," "Snow White," "The Little Mermaid," "Monsters Inc." and "Inside Out." We think several of these will appear throughout the vessel, perhaps as the themes for onboard theater shows, bars, coffee shops, kids spaces, Funnel suites and artwork.
Check in tomorrow to read about the final day's clues, as well as the big official announcements coming from the line with regard to the new ship.
The scavenger hunt kicked off in the Luna lounge on Disney Wish, where Trent Hitchcock, a cruise director with Disney Cruise Line, introduced himself as the entertainment lead for Disney Believe. He divided the room into three groups, each of which had to use a clue to come up with a number. When combined, the numbers were 723, the hull number for the new ship – something every new vessel is assigned at the shipyard where it's built.
From there, attendees reported to one of each of the four corners of the room to gather their next clue, based on Disney characters they were pre-assigned. Clues sent them on one of several paths, each of which ended with a reward.
Cruise Critic's was this: "Every great voyage begins with a choice. To stay where you are. Or to explore what lies beyond the horizon. For those who believe there is more to discover … we offer a clue. Somewhere aboard this ship, a porthole contains a word to guide you on your course. To find it, solve this …. Deck: The number of core Emotions. Location: The heart of the ship."
The clue, referencing Disney animated movie "Inside Out," took us to a porthole on Deck 5 (the number of core Emotions), midship (the heart). From there, a cast member (known as a "story keeper" for this event) handed us a smaller card that read, "Before you is a window to the night sky. Look to the stars to find the hidden letters, then unscramble them to complete the question below. Which Emotion is _ _ _ _ _ _?"
The letters on the porthole, which was set up to look like a sky with constellations, spelled out "ORANGE" when arranged properly, making Anxiety (the orange Emotion in "Inside Out") the answer. After relaying that to our story keeper, we received our final task: matching all of the Emotions to their corresponding colors on a clue card.
When finished, we followed the instructions, which read: "Take your completed challenge to the place where core memories are made to receive a delightful reward." That meant heading up to Deck 11's Inside Out: Joyful Sweets, which serves up cupcakes, gelato and other desserts.
There, we received a cup of chocolate gelato with a crunchy orange coating. Our story keeper told us she can't yet reveal the name of the dish, nor specifically where cruisers will find it, but she did confirm it will be served somewhere on Disney Believe.
After the fun was over, we compared notes with several other scavenger hunters and discovered that alternate journeys ended at the Keg & Compass pub, where the treat was a lemon drop-esque cocktail served in a constellation-themed glass; The Bayou bar, which offered nonalcoholic Evil Queen drinks that tasted like green apple; and Nightingale's piano bar for a smokey drink in a long-stemmed seashell glass.
As for what it all means, Disney was mum but promises all will be made clear during the live stream on October 7. For now, we can only speculate. Here are some of our best guesses:
Inside Out: Joyful Sweets will remain: We're thinking, given the heavy emphasis on "Inside Out" during our adventure, the dessert shop will have a location on Disney Believe, perhaps with new offerings, including the delicious chocolate-orange gelato option we tried (and loved).
The Bayou will have a "Snow White" theme: Because of the Evil Queen drink, we're guessing the space that is The Bayou on Disney Wish (Skipper Society on Disney Treasure and The Sanctum on Disney Destiny) will be based on "Snow White." We're secretly hoping for more mocktail options like the one sampled during the hunt and maybe a flight of seven beers to represent Snow White's tiny companions.
Keg & Compass will look to the stars: There have been several references to constellations during the first day's activities. The sample drink's constellation glass could have ties to several Disney movies, including "Peter Pan," "Moana" (who will be the atrium statue on Disney Believe), "Pinocchio" (especially Jiminy Cricket) and the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise. We're thinking the onboard pub (the Periscope Pub on Disney Treasure and Cask & Cannon on Disney Destiny) might have theming from one of these.
Nightingale's will embrace "The Little Mermaid": Super-sleuths who ended up at Nightingale's for the smokey shell cocktail are rumored to have received "Little Mermaid"-themed clues, which were reinforced by the drink itself. We suspect this Cinderella-forward piano bar on Disney Wish ("Aristocats"-themed Scat Cat Lounge on Disney Treasure and Cruella de Vil-themed De Vil's on Disney Destiny) will transform into an under-the-sea watering hole on Disney Believe.
The second day of clue-gathering begins soon. Check back here daily through October 7 for more recaps and our best guesses prior to the big reveal.
