Marella Cruises has revealed that travelers looking for an alternative to Venice can set their sights on Slovenia's coastal town of Koper.
Koper is an overlooked Adriatic destination that combines Venetian architecture, waterfront cafés and historic squares where local beers are £3 and a glass of Slovenian wine is £3.50, Marella said.
Ped Vojvodic, destinations services manager at Marella Cruises, who has 12 years of experience working in the industry, said: "Koper is one of the Adriatic's best kept secrets. While many travelers have heard of Venice, fewer know about Slovenia's beautiful coastline."
Marella has seen a 39 percent increase in clicks from Google for Koper cruise-related terms. The destination offers visitors a blend of medieval history, architecture and easy-going Mediterranean charm.
The company said in a press release that, as a former part of the Venetian Republic for more than 500 years, reminders of its Italian influence can still be found throughout the town, from Gothic palaces and piazzas to cobbled streets lined with cafés and restaurants.
Highlights include Tito Square, the Praetorian Palace and the Cathedral of the Assumption.
According to the press release, Koper allows Brits to experience Italian-inspired charm in Slovenia for a fraction of the price. Visitors can enjoy local specialties including fuži and pršut. Koper serves as a gateway to Piran.
Marella stated that Koper combines history, architecture, local food and drink and easy access to nearby coastal gems, making it a fantastic destination for customers looking to discover somewhere different.
Marella Cruises offers a seven-night Adriatic Explorer round cruise from Corfu on the Marella Voyager from £1690 per person.
Price based on two adults sharing a Deck 10/12 Inside Cabin on an all-inclusive basis.
The itinerary calls at Corfu, Corfu Town; day at sea; Koper, Slovenia; Zadar, Croatia; Split, Croatia; Kotor, Montenegro; Dubrovnik, Croatia and Corfu.
Price includes TUI Airways flights from London Gatwick on September 4, 2026, luggage per person, transfers, tips and service charges.
