Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) could stop offering sailings from Tampa after spring 2027.
Cruisers searching for NCL sailings out of Tampa for late 2027 and 2028 have noticed that itineraries currently appear as unavailable beyond spring 2027, raising questions about whether the cruise line plans to return to the Florida port for the following season.
NCL's currently published schedule includes sailings through April 2027.
However, the cruise line did not confirm that it is leaving Tampa. In an email to Cruise Critic, the company said that future deployment plans are still under evaluation.
"We currently offer sailings to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Tampa, Fla. from Nov. 2026 through April 2027," the company said. "As we work towards future deployment announcements later this year, we will continue to evaluate all destination possibilities, including our seasonal voyages from Tampa, Fla."
The response leaves the door open for NCL to continue offering seasonal departures from the port, although the company's long-term plans for Tampa remain unclear.
Meanwhile, the absence of available sailings beyond April 2027 has caught the attention of Tampa-based cruisers, who took to the message boards to share their concerns.
In a Cruise Critic discussion, one member said they contacted the cruise line directly.
"I was on the phone with NCL and asked why no Tampa sailings after spring 2027. She had no answer. Has anyone heard anything? We love sailing out of Tampa," wrote jxtgreek.
Another cruiser, posting under the name hernando52, said the uncertainty could be particularly significant for local passengers who prefer not to travel long distances.
"Tampa is our homeport. As seniors, we no longer want to fly or drive for hours to get to/from a cruise port. Nov/Dec 2027(our preferred travel time) are not looking good for embarking on an NCL cruise out of the Port of Tampa. Gem will be in Miami, Dawn in Jacksonville, Star in Europe, Jade in Japan, Pearl in Philadelphia, Jewel in Miami....unless there is shuffling, it looks like Tampa is going to get the cold shoulder from NCL."
One member suggested that the company's newer ships and itineraries could potentially reflect a broader industry trend of attracting new-to-cruise passengers.
"norwegian is following royal foot steps with the amusement park and 3-4 day cruises. These types of cruises is perfect for new cruises that all cruise lines want," said shof515.
Norwegian Gem is scheduled to operate Western and Southern Caribbean cruises from Tampa from November 2026 through spring 2027.
NCL first based a ship in Tampa in 2011, with Norwegian Star sailing a series of seven-day Western Caribbean cruises.
Port Tampa Bay is currently expanding for the first time in 25 years. Site preparations for a fourth cruise terminal are underway. It is expected to be completed in 2029.
