Oceania Sonata tasted water for the first time Thursday when it was floated out at Fincantieri's Marghera yard. Delivery is scheduled for August 2027.
The 86,000gt, 1,390-passenger ship heralds a new series of five for Oceania Cruises.
Oceania Sonata will be nearly 30% larger than 2025's Oceania Allura with only 90 additional accommodations, making for an extra-spacious vessel. One-third of accommodations will be suites, and two new categories are the more than 600-square-foot horizon suites and the 488-square-foot penthouse deluxe suite.
Among the dining venues are two new concepts: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen, along with signature specialty restaurants Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill and Toscana.
Jason Montague, chief luxury officer, called it the "beginning of an exciting new chapter" for Oceania Cruises, adding: "We are tremendously grateful to our partners at Fincantieri whose expertise and craftsmanship are bringing Oceania Sonata to life."

Representing Oceania Cruises at the Marghera ceremony was Paolo Novarino, senior director, project owner, who joined Fincantieri leadership including Marco Lunardi, SVP of Marghera Shipyard.
Sonata sister Oceania Arietta is scheduled to follow in 2029, with three additional ships planned for delivery in 2032, 2035 and 2037.
For nearly two decades, Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri have worked together, starting with Oceania Marina (2011), Oceania Riviera (2012), Oceania Vista (2023) and Oceania Allura (2025). Those were built at Sestri Ponente.

Marghera has built 36 cruise ships since 1991 and today involves approximately 6,000 people on a daily basis, including Fincantieri employees and workers from partner companies.
