The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the Icebreaker vessel Admiral Makarov caught fire while undergoing repair at Kronstadt Marine Shipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia, in the afternoon on 5 September. No casualties were reported.

At around 2:20 pm local time, the fire originated in the steering compartment in the ship's aft hold and spread over an area of up to 100 square meters. A total of fifty-two emergency personnel and ten fire extinguishing equipment were dispatched to extinguish the fire. After approximately two hours of firefighting operations, the blaze was brought under control.
No injuries were reported, while authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the vessel.
Admiral Makarov is a Russian-flagged Icebreaker built in 1975. The vessel measures 134.84 meters in length, 26.05 meters in width and has a holding capacity of 100 tons.
