The cruise ship AIDAperla broke free from its mooring in the Port of Le Havre, France, after strong winds affected the area, causing contact between the stern of the vessel and the quay wall, as detailed by Cruise Mapper.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, when an unexpected storm front brought strong wind gusts to the area. According to reports, several mooring lines in the forward section of the ship broke or came loose, allowing the AIDAperla to drift away from the pier. Meteorological records indicated wind gusts of approximately 56 km/h in Le Havre that afternoon.
During the incident, both passenger gangways detached from the ship and fell into the water. Around 500 passengers who were ashore on excursions were temporarily unable to return onboard while the vessel was being secured.
Tugs were dispatched to assist the AIDAperla and guide it back to its berth. Subsequently, port authorities confirmed that the vessel had been secured and that passengers were able to re-board. No injuries were reported onboard the ship or at the pier.
The Mein Schiff 3 was docked nearby and also received tug assistance during the period of adverse weather conditions. Its departure was delayed by approximately two hours.
AIDA Cruises confirmed that the AIDAperla had docked at the pier. The ship remained in Le Havre while technicians, port authorities, and representatives of the classification society carried out inspections.
The disruption led to the cancellation of the AIDAperla's scheduled call in Zeebrugge one day later. The vessel's next scheduled call was in Rotterdam, followed by its anticipated return to Hamburg on September 12.
The AIDAperla, with a capacity for 3,286 passengers, is on a seven-night cruise that departed from Hamburg on September 5. The itinerary included a call in Southampton before the ship arrived in Le Havre.
