Port of Tyne and Fred. Olsen Cruise Line are celebrating two decades of collaboration. Since launching its inaugural cruise program from Newcastle in 2006, the cruise line has welcomed over 180,000 passengers aboard its fleet of smaller ships, sailing from the city to destinations such as the Norwegian fjords, the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Baltic, and the Mediterranean. Another 21,000 guests are already booked for future voyages from the Port of Tyne.
Fred. Olsen celebrated with a special entertainment program for passengers embarking on the Balmoral, featuring performances by the band Four Worried Men and bagpiper Andrew Lawrenson, plus a farewell deck event amidst a water cannon salute.
Samantha Stimpson, CEO of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, stated that "we are delighted to celebrate 20 years of sailing from the Port of Tyne and bringing cruises closer to our guests across the North East of England. I would like to thank the Port of Tyne for helping to make yesterday's celebrations so special, and we look forward to welcoming even more guests from across the North East aboard our fleet in the months and years to come."
Craig Morton, Commercial Director at the Port of Tyne, expressed that "we are immensely proud to celebrate 20 years of collaboration with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines at the Port of Tyne. Reaching this milestone is a testament to the strength of our long-standing relationship and the trust that Fred. Olsen continues to place in the port as a gateway for its guests."
"The cruise sector is vitally important for both the port and the wider region, as it drives inbound and outbound tourism, generates significant economic benefits, and helps to raise the profile of the North East of England to visitors from across the UK and abroad," added Morton.
