CIMC Raffles Delivers 100 kW Offshore Solar Platform with Bamboo Structure

CIMC Raffles has completed the delivery of Jilin No. 2, the world's first 100 kW bamboo-based offshore floating photovoltaic platform.

Jointly developed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Institute, China Forestry Group Corporation, and Beijing Forestry University, the platform will be deployed at CIMC's offshore solar demonstration base in Yantai, Shandong, supplying clean energy for a hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol demonstration project.

The platform features third-generation bamboo-wound pipes and Sea Bamboo Pipe, a pre-stressed fiber-reinforced wood-bamboo composite that offers superior strength, lightness, and corrosion resistance.

Compared to conventional steel or HDPE structures, the bamboo-based design significantly reduces the marine environmental impact. Building on the 10 kW Jilin No. 1 prototype from 2023, this milestone propels the use of bamboo materials from laboratory to industrial scale.

The partners will soon undertake a megawatt-level pilot project to foster the standardization and global adoption of sustainable marine materials.
