Canada Activates Tariffs of Up to 50% Against US Imports

Tariffs imposed by Canada on imports from the United States have come into effect. The tariff is applied as a response to the tariff increase imposed by Washington last August.

According to Deutsche Welle, the Canadian taxes are divided into three groups (15%, 25%, and 50%), affecting approximately USD 20 billion in imports from its neighboring country, including products such as steel, dairy products, and electronic items.

It is worth remembering that on August 21 of the current year, the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, publicly acknowledged that negotiations with the emissaries of US President, Donald Trump, had failed due to the counterparty's demands, which included limiting the use of the French language in the province of Quebec.

Regarding the new status of the relationship between the United States and Canada, Carney stated that "this change of course will have a cost. There is always a cost when you act. But it does not come close to the cost of standing still."

"These measures are necessary to protect our workers and our businesses," concluded the Prime Minister.
