Ecopetrol Begins Exports of 2,100 Tons of Solid Sulfur from Cartagena

Ecopetrol exported the first 2,100 tons of bulk solid sulfur to Brazil, Peru, and Tanzania, through seven shipments of the product from the Port of Cartagena.

With this, Colombia's main oil company began a monthly export cycle that will generate profitability close to USD 1 million for the Cartagena Refinery by the end of 2026. It is estimated that the volumes commercialized this year will reach 10% of the total sulfur production processed in the pelletizing plant, which was inaugurated in April of this year.

"This milestone represents a strategic advance for the company, by enabling the international commercialization of solid sulfur at competitive prices in a market with growing demand. The new export line generates additional income sources for the Cartagena Refinery and strengthens Ecopetrol's positioning as a reliable supplier with integrated logistical solutions," Ecopetrol stated in a public declaration.

The logistical chain begins with the production and solidification of sulfur at the refinery, as well as its packaging in flexible bags, which are stored in metal containers. Subsequently, the product is transferred to the Port of Cartagena, where it is loaded onto container ships traveling to South America and Africa.

By 2027, Ecopetrol plans to expand its presence in Latin America, reaching new markets such as Argentina and the Dominican Republic.
