The Port of Barranquilla reached a new milestone by being authorized by the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), user type Port Facility, Security and Facilitation category, becoming the first port facility in Barranquilla to achieve this recognition.
For the Port of Barranquilla, achieving this standard strengthens its value proposition for importers, exporters, shipping companies, and other foreign trade actors, by incorporating a new competitive differentiator to attract opportunities and move more cargo through its facilities safely and efficiently.
The validation process involved the participation of the DIAN, the National Police, the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), and the Superintendence of Transportation, authorities that issued favorable technical concepts for the granting of the authorization.
"Becoming Barranquilla's first AEO port facility, along with achieving the highest standards, is a sign of confidence for clients and shipping companies that choose our Port to move their cargo safely and efficiently. This authorization reaffirms the solidity of our operation, the joint work with the authorities, and encourages us to continue raising our standards so that Barranquilla is increasingly competitive as a multipurpose logistics platform for international trade, for Colombia, the region, and the world," said Manuel Buitrago Vives, president and CEO of the Port of Barranquilla.
The obtaining of this authorization involved the review and strengthening of internal processes, as well as validation by the competent authorities. Resolution No. 13212 of September 8, 2026, records compliance with all minimum requirements for a port facility in the AEO Security and Facilitation category.
