The Port Authority of Castellón has presented the new activity program for the Castelló PortLab External Innovation Commission, an open innovation space designed to connect the port community with companies, technological agents, and organizations within the innovative ecosystem. The new call consolidates the commission's growth with the incorporation of 16 new companies, reaching a total of 28 participating entities.
This expansion strengthens the diversity of capabilities and experiences present in the commission and will allow for continued progress from knowledge exchange to the identification of opportunities, experimentation, and collaboration on solutions applicable to the logistics-port environment.
The program combines training, practical workshops, technical visits, business debate, and co-creation spaces. Among the activities planned for the course, the program in its initial months has a strong practical and immersive orientation with a comprehensive program composed of nine lines of action.
During the 2025/26 period, the commission carried out a series of six sessions focused on financing, energy transition, digitalization, challenge identification and prioritization, talent and social impact, and co-creation of solutions. This allowed for the strengthening of capabilities, sharing of experiences, and laying the groundwork for jointly addressing the main challenges of the port ecosystem.
The current call continues this work with an even more practical orientation. The objective is to enable participating companies to learn about real cases, compare needs, identify allies, and transform shared challenges into innovation opportunities, pilot projects, and improvement decisions.
Throughout the first half of 2027, priority areas such as data governance, smart technological procurement, the map of financing opportunities, change management, open innovation with startups, and the articulation of the 2030 Strategic Council will be addressed.
The calendar will kick off with the session "Efficient Port: the future of energy terminals," which will include a workshop and a direct technical visit to Portsur's facilities to analyze energy transition, electrification, and the use of renewables in terminal operations.
In November, the technology firm Cuatroochenta will host an Artificial Intelligence session with a workshop on digitalization and applied AI, analyzing real use cases to optimize processes and streamline strategic decisions.
In December, an online cybersecurity webinar will take place, focusing on the protection of connected environments, IT/OT convergence, and operational resilience.
With this new call, the Port Authority of Castellón reinforces Castelló PortLab as a stable space for meeting and co-creation. The External Innovation Commission will continue to act as a mechanism for connecting the port's innovation strategy with the capabilities, challenges, and opportunities of its business and technological environment.
The objective of the commission is to consolidate an active community, facilitate knowledge transfer, and create conditions for ideas to evolve into concrete initiatives, collaborations, and projects with an impact on the efficiency, sustainability, digitalization, security, and competitiveness of the Port of Castellón.
