The Foreign Minister of Chile, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, visited the facilities of the Port of Shanghai (China). The maritime station is the largest container terminal in the world and the main gateway for Chilean exports to the Asian giant.
Through a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that "the foreign minister toured the facilities of the international maritime transport center with the largest number of routes, destinations, and daily frequency of container ships. Shanghai handles over 55 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in annual container traffic."
Regarding the commercial link between both nations, it was indicated that "China is Chile's largest trading partner, accounting for more than a third of the country's total trade with the world. Bilateral trade has grown almost 15% in the last year, reaching US$67.1 billion."
In this regard, Pérez Mackenna stated that "this visit reaffirms the deep commercial relationship that unites Chile and China. Since the entry into force of our Free Trade Agreement 20 years ago, we have seen a sustained growth in the exchange of goods. Today, our copper, fruits, and wines enter China through here and make this port a privileged witness to the trust that both economies have built together," concluded the foreign minister.
