Shandong Port Group (SPG) Overseas Development Group recently completed the shipment of a batch of oversized equipment destined for Malaysia, customizing a completely new, comprehensive logistics solution for the client.
The relocation of all factory machinery was completed using 465 standard containers, resulting in approximately an 18 percent saving in logistics costs for the client.
Since its launch, the project team leveraged the local service strengths of overseas warehouses. It completed all relevant preparatory work, including plan design and preparation for local regulatory compliance, in just three months, which allowed the team to overcome three obstacles in regulatory compliance, costs, and control capability of overseas logistics.
In response to Malaysia's complex import regulatory policies, the project team efficiently completed special approvals, including investment qualification certification from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and exemption from the Sales and Service Tax (SST). Furthermore, it refined the complete documentation for the tax exemption application, opened a duty-free import channel, and laid a solid foundation for policy compliance.
To address industry challenges such as soaring freight rates, scarcity of shipping space, and difficulties in transporting oversized equipment, the team designed multiple logistics solutions for the client.
Finally, a transportation solution combining standard containers and flat racks was chosen. This effectively mitigated the risks of delays and price increases stemming from market volatility, significantly reducing the client's total logistics costs.
Meanwhile, thanks to the well-developed, integrated service system of the overseas warehouses, the cargo was cleared on the same day of its arrival and delivered directly to the factory the next day. This created a closed-loop process integrating port arrival, customs clearance, distribution, and factory delivery, resolving industry problems related to long port stays and slow transshipment of oversized cargo.
