The Municipal Council of Almirante unanimously approved the project for the reconstruction of the Fiscal Dock and the administrative offices of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), following a courtesy presentation by the entity's Provincial Coordinator in Bocas del Toro, Jorge Chin, who outlined the scope and impact of the initiative.
During the session, municipal authorities, led by Mayor Ameth Zapata, expressed their support for the project and agreed to draft a resolution to be sent to the AMP, expressing the urgency of executing this strategic infrastructure project for the district.
"We transparently presented the benefits of the project and reaffirmed our willingness to dialogue with authorities and the community. This infrastructure is fundamental to ensuring safe and efficient maritime mobility to Bastimentos, Carenero, and other islands of the archipelago, through which hundreds of users travel daily," Chin emphasized.
The reconstruction of the Almirante Fiscal Dock will directly benefit over 17,000 inhabitants who depend on maritime transport for their mobility, the supply of goods, and the development of commercial, tourist, and fishing activities.
As part of the project planning, the AMP completed a Request for Information (RFI) that helped define the technical, operational, and economic conditions of the work, with the aim of strengthening maritime connectivity, boosting the local economy, promoting tourism, and improving the efficiency of port operations in Bocas del Toro.
The project will soon be presented to the AMP Board of Directors for approval. Once authorized, the institution will initiate the public bidding process, in which national and international companies and consortia may participate, in accordance with current regulations.
With this initiative, the Panamanian Government reaffirms its commitment to the modernization of national port infrastructure and to the development of safer, more efficient, and more resilient ports, for the benefit of communities that depend on maritime transport as a cornerstone of their economic and social development.
