The Minister of Public Security, Martín Arrau, visited San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI), in the commune of Talcahuano, to inspect the progress of the infrastructure intended for customs and SAG inspections, facilities that total over 600 m² and will soon begin operations at the port.
One of the main points of the visit was the review of the new customs and SAG inspection site, infrastructure built by SVTI within the port and designed to improve conditions for cargo inspection and control tasks. The project includes a 400 m² warehouse and an additional 220 m² for offices for both agencies, and is expected to become operational soon.
Minister Arrau emphasized the strategic importance of ports for foreign trade and national security. "We were looking at security issues and how to improve based on the international experience the company has in other locations, in addition to port operations," he commented.
The authority praised the progress in providing better facilities for Customs and and SAG. He indicated that these types of controls allow for the protection of phytosanitary aspects, verification of tariff and tax matters, and contribute to preventing the entry of illicit goods and drugs, as well as preventing the penetration of organized crime through coordinated work with the Maritime Police.
For his part, the General Manager of SVTI, Juan Pablo Santibáñez, highlighted that the terminal has standards and procedures aimed at protecting cargo during its stay in the port facility.
"We have a high standard in terms of cargo control and protection. We have procedures that allow us to protect it throughout the entire operation. We are at a border, and that implies continuous collaborative work with the authorities to ensure security," stated Santibáñez.
The visit helped strengthen coordination between SVTI, the authorities, and the agencies involved in port security and control.
