The governing council of Puertos del Estado unanimously validated the Investment Plan presented by the port authority. The bulk of the budget will be allocated in 2027 to the railway network and improving operational efficiency at the docks.
Ferrol, July 31, 2026. The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority has received the approval of the Puertos del Estado governing council for its 2027-2031 Investment Plan, a strategic document outlining the entity's investment roadmap for the next five years. The plan prioritizes improving operational efficiency at the docks of both harbors, railway connections, digital transformation, sustainability, and environmental care.
The budget for the actions planned for 2027 amounts to almost 20 million euros, an amount that the port authority will largely allocate to improving railway infrastructure and providing services to meet the needs of operators. Among the most relevant actions to be undertaken are Phase 2 of the outer port's logistics platform (over 6.5 million euros) and actions in the concession area of the Caneliñas container terminal (over 1.6 million euros).
Other actions contemplated in the plan include improving the operational efficiency of the outer port in relation to the availability of plots for companies, the electrification of Ferrol's docks for connection to the general grid, and the digitalization of the maritime traffic control system in Ferrol.
The Investment Plan is framed within the general guidelines of the Puertos del Estado Strategic Framework and was presented by the President of the Port Authority, José Antonio Álvarez Vidal, and the Director, Jesús Casás, who achieved unanimous validation of a strategic document for the development and modernization of the ports of Ferrol and San Cibrao.
"We are very satisfied with the approval of the plan because it means that Puertos del Estado shares our vision for the future and the need to continue investing in infrastructure and services that allow our ports to be more competitive, sustainable, and efficient," said José Antonio Álvarez Vidal.
The President of the Port Authority also highlighted the commitment to sustainability and energy transition that permeates the Investment Plan. "We want to be leading ports in decarbonization and reducing our carbon footprint, and for this, we are working on projects for dock electrification, the use of renewable energies, and optimizing energy efficiency," he added.
The 2027-2031 Investment Plan is a living document that will be reviewed annually to adapt it to market needs and new challenges that may arise. "Our goal is to continue being an economic engine for the region and the province, generating employment and wealth, and for this, we need to have first-class infrastructure and services," concluded Álvarez Vidal.
