The Dutch Port Workers' Union (FNV) has called for a halt to its operations in the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Zeeland. The strike has been scheduled for the second morning shift and the first afternoon shift on September 4.
In this regard, the Port of Amsterdam reported that "the tugboat service company Svitzer has indicated that its employees will heed the union's call and participate in the strike. As a consequence, tugboat capacity will be reduced during this period. This could cause delays in vessel handling and affect terminal operations."
"At this stage, the exact impact is unclear, as it is still unknown whether terminal operators will also take industrial action," it was stated.
Finally, the maritime station noted that "maritime traffic management will continue to be carried out with maximum safety and efficiency. Safety will never be compromised. However, the strike could affect the fluidity and predictability of port operations."
