Master Plan for Corío Port Terminal Approved in Arequipa

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (National Port Authority) approved the Master Plan for the Corío Port Terminal, located in the province of Islay, Arequipa region. This approval constitutes a key step to advance the development of this strategic port infrastructure for the south of the country.

The Master Plan defines the land and water areas necessary for the future development of the terminal, which will require an investment exceeding USD 800 million. This will allow the process for promoting the participation of private investors to continue.

The port project includes three development stages and considers the construction of a multipurpose terminal, with the capacity to handle general cargo, containers, and solid bulk. This infrastructure will expand the operational capacity of the National Port System and meet the growing demands of international trade.

The National Port Authority (APN) developed this Master Plan within the framework of the Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement signed in November 2025 between the Regional Government of Arequipa, ProInversión, and APN, with the intervention of the MTC, which analyzed the infrastructure needs and demand for port services.

With this approval, the transport sector promotes long-term port planning to integrate the country with international markets, aiming to strengthen connectivity and create conditions for the development and competitiveness of the National Port System.
