With the aim of promoting strategic transport projects and strengthening the region's connectivity, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Rafael Rey Rey, held a working meeting with the regional governor of Moquegua, Gilia Gutiérrez Ayala, where the main needs and projects of the sector were reviewed.
One of the priority topics was the Moquegua-Omate-Arequipa highway, an important integration axis between both southern regions of the country. During the meeting, the need to secure its financing and define the route to advance in the execution of this road infrastructure was addressed.
Likewise, the authorities evaluated the improvement of the port of Ilo, particularly the breakwater pier project, whose execution is planned under the Works for Taxes modality. In this context, it is expected to advance in the necessary coordinations for the signing of the corresponding agreement by December of this year.
Another topic addressed was the resumption of Ilo-Lima-Ilo flights. In this regard, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that efforts are being made for a new call for subsidized flights, in order to create conditions that allow the recovery of the region's air connectivity. As part of these actions, the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) announced the acquisition of portable lights for Ilo airport, a measure that will contribute to improving its operational conditions and generating greater interest from airline companies, with the expectation of moving forward with a new call soon and initiating the resumption of flights in the coming months.
During the meeting, actions regarding the damages caused by DANA Anibal in the south of the country were also reviewed. The regional governor highlighted the response to transport and install a 30-meter modular bridge, an intervention aimed at restoring transitability on the Costanera Ilo-Tacna highway.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications will continue coordinating with the Regional Government of Moquegua to promote projects that improve road, port, and airport infrastructure, strengthening the region's connectivity and competitiveness.
